We’re excited that you’ve decided to join us! The registration process can sometimes be confusing, so let us guide you through the process.

Step 1

Prepare for Registration

Let's cover everything you need to have ready to volunteer as a Scouter.

Step 2

Register on MyScouts

Apply to 1st Carp, and complete the initial online steps.

Step 3

Submit a PRC Request

Obtain a Police Record Check from OPS or the OPP.

Step 4

Online Training

Complete online training on leadership and Scouter skills.

Step 5

Final Interview

As your last step, you'll participate in an interview with fellow Scouters.

Let's chat!

Each group conducts their own interviews, with some key goals:

  • Allow you to meet 1st Carp members outside of a formal Scouting meeting
  • To identify if your goals and ideals mesh with those of 1st Carp
  • Ensure that there are no concerns, issues or conflicts that may affect your ability to be a Scouter
  • Answer any quesions you may have regarding Scouting in general or your role

What Should I Know?

Confidentiality

The Scouters who will be interviewing you will keep their discussion and your answers confidential. Full honesty and transparency is key for your interview!

Who are my interviewers?

There will be a minimum of two existing 1st Carp Scouters who will be part of your interview. Whenever possible that will include the Contact Scouter of the section you are applying to, and our Group Commissioner, depending on availability and the role you’re applying to.

We want you to ask any questions you may have.

  • What will the role include?
  • What if I have conflicts with my son/daughter’s hockey?
  • Do I need to attend every weekend event?
  • What time commitment do I require?

This is your opportunity to ask us questions as well, to make sure you want to accept the role!

What will you ask?

There are several areas we cover; rest assured that we ourselves were asked these questions during our interview process. The questions are consistent for everyone, and cover some key areas:

  8. Vision for youth

How long?

Plan for an hour, depending on how many questions you may have.

We’ll reach out to your as your application moves through the process, to find a mutual time that works!

Background Steps

Although we know you’re ready to huit the ground running, throughout the process there are several background steps that take place.

These include your reference checks and council approval, which may take time!
